[discussion_vu] Solution of Graded Discussion BOARD (GDB) NO.1 MGT402 Cost & Management Accounting Fall 2012

Discussion Question:
Star company - a partnership firm of Mr. "A" and Mr. "B", deals in ball points manufacturing business. Despite of using the traditional approach of costing, the company is earning handsome profits. One day Mr. C (son of partner A) visited the firm and got a chance to check some of the organization's reports incidentally. He found that due to the lack of knowledge about costing techniques, the plant capacity is being incorrectly estimated and this has resulted in under utilization of the plant. He discussed this issue with his father on the dinner and suggested Mr. A to adopt some modern costing techniques so that the plant capacity can be fully utilized. Mr. A discussed this issue with his partner, Mr. B on the next day. But, both the partners were hesitant to adopt the suggestion because they thought that due to this, their cost of goods produced might gone up and hence their profit could be reduced. Later, Mr. C tried to convince them that the profit could not be reduced. He strongly recommended the proposal by saying that "Variable cost varies on per unit of output produced, whereas fixed cost remains constant on per unit of output produced".

Required:
As a student of cost accounting, will you be agree with the statement given by Mr. C? Support your answer with logical reasons.

Solution

First Understand the Variable cost and fixed cost

Variable cost

A periodic cost is cost that varies in step with the output or the sales revenue of a company.

Variable costs include raw material, energy usage, labor, distribution costs, etc. Companies with high variable costs are significantly different from those with high fixed costs.click here to read more

1st of all understand the concept of profit organizations and nonprofit organizations

When you start a business, it is for the financial benefit of its owners and/or shareholders. Profit is the goal and the business pays taxes on that profit.

A nonprofit entity has a mission that benefits the "greater good" of the community, society, or the world. It does not pay taxes, but it also cannot use its funds for anything other than the mission for which it was formed.......click here for complete....

[discussion_vu] RE: [HCI] Zul Hijjah to have 28 day as per Saudi Calendar !!

Dear brother it is common sense that if the people pray Jumma on a saturday instead of a Friday then we can accurately say that the Jumma prayer of all those who prayed their Jumma on Saturday is a total waste and that nothing will be accepted similarly this year 2012 Arafat day falls on Wednesday the 24th October 2012 if people go to Arafat and stand there on the 25th of October then we can very well say that all their amals were a waste - also brother I swear on Allah I saw the Urjunil Qadeem last month on the 28th of Dhul Qa'dha which happened to fall on Sunday the 14th October 2012 the next day was the conjunction day and the next automatically the 1st of Dhul Hijjah which tells us that the right Arafat day is the 24th October Wednesday.

Walikkum salam,

Dear brother Sulthan,Send

Alhamdulilah, for the past couple of years I have been following the hijra calendar based on correct lunar phase and hence I agree with all your points given in your email except for the below (highlighted in red):

'If the dates of Zul Hijjah 1433 is not corrected as started from Tuesday (16 th Oct),  the Hajj of millions will occur on a wrong day and the deeds of millions and millions of Muslims will go waste because of the wrong start of this Sacred month. '

In my opinion none of us have any right to say that any particular ibadah is going to be waste. It is upto almighty Allah to accept or reject it.

Please correct me if there is something wrong in what I have mentioned.

Riyas.

Dear Brothers & Sisters

Assalaamu Alaikkum Wa Rahmathullaahi wa Barakaathu hu

Though the New Moon (Amaavaas)/ Conjunction occurs every month, majority are not aware of this celestial phenomenon  because they are not bothered nor there is any immediate need to know about it for a lay man.  But for a Muslim to know about it,  is a religious duty because the Day of Conjunction marks the end of a month and the new month has to be started on the following day.  The duration  between two Conjunctions is 29 days or 30 days.  This is confirmed by the Sunnah.

Solar Eclipse also occurs on the Day of Conjunction itself.  But it is not occurring every month as certain conditions have to be met for the Solar Eclipse to occur.  During Conjunction,  Earth, Moon and Sun come on a same plane and during Solar Eclipse these celestial bodies  come in a straight line. Such parameter is met only once or twice in a year.   In short, the conjunction occurs invisible to naked eye every month whereas Solar Eclipse can be witnessed by anyone.

To be aware of a Solar Eclipse is also a religious obligation of a Muslim as he is supposed to pray Eclipse Prayers during Solar Eclipse.

Usually certain un-known people, who do not disclose their identity,  from certain particular Coastal areas of Kerala (India) claim to have seen the hilaal on many a New Moon Day (Amaavaas) even when the sun-set & moon-set difference were mere 10 minutes or even less than 4 minutes !!!  They inform about their "seeing of the hilaal" to the religious leaders and these leaders declare the start of the new month !!

During Conjunction, the moon comes from one side of the Sun and passes over to the other side or overtakes the Sun  (as described in Quran 36:40).  This overtaking is invisible to naked eye.  But, during a Solar Eclipse, anyone can see the approach of moon from one side of the Sun, covering up of the Sun and moon then moving to the other side.  Masha Allah !!

Who can deny the truth that the Solar Eclipse/ Conjunction  marks the end of a month?

On Tuesday (13 th Nov 2012) Almighty Allah has decreed a Total Solar Eclipse.

This year too Saudi Arabia has started the month of Zul Hijjah on a wrong day.  They have declared Wednesday (17 th Oct) as the first of Zul Hijjah.  According to their wrong start, the Total Solar Eclipse will occur on their 28 th day !!!! This duration of a month is contrary to the authentic hadeeth.

Authentic hadeeth says that a month is of 29 or 30 days.  Then who has given the authority to human beings - let them be scholars or leaders - to cut short the month to 28 days ?   Who has given the authority to human beings - let them be scholars or leaders - to change, on their whim and fancy, the months fixed by the Almighty Allah on the very day of creation ??

We would like to inform all that the Total Solar Eclipse occurring on Tuesday  (13 th Nov 2012) is a Sign of Almighty Allah and a warning to those who start the months wrongly and also to those who insist on seeing the hilaal in order to start the new month.

We categorically state that such a start is a Bid'ah.  Anyone who claim that it is a Sunnah is requested to produce atleast a single authentic hadeeth which says that the Prophet (Sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam) has ever gone in search for the hilaal appearing on the western sky or asked any Sahaba (RA) to do so.  (We would like to inform all that we have been asking for such a hadeeth for decades  and  so far no scholar has produced any.)

Almighty Allah is openly revealing those persons who are deniers of His Sign - Solar Eclipse. No one can deny that the month of Zul Hijjah ends with this Total Solar Eclipse.  Those who follow  Saudi Arabia will end this month with only 28 days and those in other countries like Pakistan who start the month only on Thursday  (18 Oct) will end Zul Hiijah 1433 with just  27 days !!!  They may even see the 1 st day's hilaal of Muharram on their 28 th day after sunset !!!  Is this not brazen and blatant denial of Allah's Sign ???? Naudubillah !!!

If the dates of Zul Hijjah 1433 is not corrected as started from Tuesday (16 th Oct),  the Hajj of millions will occur on a wrong day and the deeds of millions and millions of Muslims will go waste because of the wrong start of this Sacred month.

We request, the King of Saudi Arabia - the Custodian of Two Holy Masjids to look into this serious matter and do the needful so that the Day of Arafath falls on Wednesday (24 th Oct) and the Eidul Alha on Thursday (25 th Oct) which are the correct 9 th and 10 th dates of Zul Hijjah as per the moon-phases, as directed by Almighty Allah in Noble Quran 2:189.

Since the Total Solar Eclipse is transmitted live by many Television channels as well as reported by printed media, throughout the world, no one in the world can say that he was unaware of this celestial phenomenon which marks the end of the lunar month.

Those who deny this Sign of Allah cannot escape from the wrath of Almighty Allah and are answerable for their folly.  They cannot escape from the wrath by blaming their leaders or scholars.  We seek refuge in Almighty Allah and pray for forgiveness to all who are deniers of His Sign.

May Almighty Allah forgive our sins, faults and errors and May, He the Almighty provide a place for all of us in Jannathul Firdouse. Aameen.

Wa Salaam
